Traffic Ent. has recently given Marley’s classic LP the proper reissue treatment on colored wax. This version pressed on two LPs (one Blue, one Pink) also comes with two slipmats for just under $30. A pair of slipmats alone will run you at least $20. Essential!

Black Sheep “Silence Of The Lambs” Instrumentals

Photobucket

Black Sheep’s first album consisted of some of the best sample based Hip Hop production of the 90’s behind clever rhyme displays and comedy relief unlike any other group at that time. And looking back now at the production of Black Sheep and the amount of samples they use to create the great music on the first two albums. You know deep down in your heart that this would be almost-if not impossible to release music like this on a major label today. So I’m excited about this release to finally see after 20 years Black Sheep beats on wax! Mista Lawnge presents some of the lost beats from Black Sheep’s first two albums on “Silence The Lambs, Vol. 1″. Hopefully volume 2 will feature more incredible beats from the classic first album compared to this one. But I can’t complain. Soon to be available on Vinyl and digital format. Keep your eyes peeled.

J Live “The Way That I Ryme” 12″

When most artists from the 90s have fallen off by now, J Live is still going strong and carrying the true school torch since about 1995 when his first single, “Longevity” dropped. A fitting title to a legacy of good music from J Live. Now he’s back with a new single produced by a couple of guys I’ve never heard before. The first track, “The Way That I Rhyme” fades from the background into the foreground with a hypnotic chant before the beat drops under J Lives signature story rhymes. That beat is bananas. If that wasn’t enough for you, on the B side you’ll find a mellow track called “Poetry In Motion”. Another track that I thoroughly enjoyed. To tell you the truth, The audio clips online really don’t give this song the true justice it deserves. In the car the beat hits so hard driven by a heavy bass line and sparse piano hits over some nice drum programming. I’m really happy he’s back with such a strong record! J Live, one of the best yet! Highly recommended!

Grooveman Spot “Change Situations” Instrumental LP

Grooveman Spot’s new album just dropped on wax and the funny think about the whole releases is that the instrumental album popped up first. Full length instrumentals on Planetgroove Japan out now.

Hubert Daviz “Proceduri De Rutina” LP

I’m digging this record a lot. It’s quite different from your average Hip Hop instrumental LP in the way Hubert constructs his beats here. His beats range from mellow Jazz grooves with light airy keys, to rhythmic Bossa and Latin styles driven by light drumming, horns, and heavy bass tones. You get some boom bap thrown in there as well like on a track called “Joi”. This album is a mature journey into sound that is best served chilled. Highly recommended.

Gang Starr Variations 12″

While I was still doing college radio about 5 years ago our station received a copy of this record released by Scion Toyota. I think this was the first 12″ in the Scion promo series that was also the hardest one to track down for me. And not until last week did I find a copy of this record for my own collection at a local shop for only $1. So if you’ve never seen this record before or even knew about it’s existence it’s definitely a record to have in the collection. This 12″ features an Orchestra by the name, Dakah playing some of the legendary music by Gang Starr and DJ Premier as well as music from the Roots on the B side. A fitting tribute to GURU and Gang Starr, especially now that GURU has passed away in recent months.
Side A features an orchestrated medley of Gang Starr beats from songs like, “Code Of The Streets”, “Ex To The Next”, Words I Manifest”, and “Soliloquy Of Chaos” among others. Track two on side A is an orchestrated version of “Jazz Thing” featuring GURU. B Side tributes The Roots. A really dope record from Scion I think you’ll enjoy.

I haven’t heard from Kut Masta Kurt in a while man, but today I come across this LP. Apparently it’s a promo limited to two hundred pressings featuring 10 well crafted beats. You know how Kut Masta Kurt does it. A really dope record pressed on limited white wax. Highly Recommended.

Wu Tang Clan “Wu Tang Forever” Instrumentals 2xLP

Photobucket

Today my instincts payed off as I found a copy of “Wu Tang Forever” instrumentals on wax for less than $5. I’ve never seen a copy of this before and I’ve never heard of a copy like this in existence. A huge plus too as it looks unplayed-a minty copy of what appears to be show vinyl found filed amongst the regular used bins and promos of a local shop. I don’t think it’s a boot-it could be but I really don’t think it is. It feels right and sounds too good. The vinyl looks to be pressed on Sony/Columbia/Epic style wax with the small ring around the hole. Full length instrumental tracks for the Wu Tang Clan’s second LP.

Lewis Parker “The Unseen Trap” 10″

I put off picking this one up for so long just because, well it’s a 10″ and only available over seas which would really be an expensive 10″ purchase if you did the math. And sometimes if you’re lucky and wait long enough like I did, a record like this will eventually turn up in your local shop anyway. Depending on label and distribution of course. So I finally picked this one up today for a reasonable price and I was happy to finally land a copy of Lewis Parker’s latest wax. The record comes in a dope cover drawn in pencil art and fashioned after those blaxploitation soundtracks and posters from the 60s and 70s. Here you’ll find three songs produced by and featuring Lewis Parker with John Robinson. I’ve always been a huge fan of his production more than Lewis as an MC.- I mean Lewis Parker has always been a great producer and constructor of beats. And this time he does a really nice job of recreating mood music with an old movie soundtrack feel that will remind you of vintage chase scenes and all around Shaft style ruckus. Instrumentals on the flip side. Highly recommended.
