While I was still doing college radio about 5 years ago our station received a copy of this record released by Scion Toyota. I think this was the first 12″ in the Scion promo series that was also the hardest one to track down for me. And not until last week did I find a copy of this record for my own collection at a local shop for only $1. So if you’ve never seen this record before or even knew about it’s existence it’s definitely a record to have in the collection. This 12″ features an Orchestra by the name, Dakah playing some of the legendary music by Gang Starr and DJ Premier as well as music from the Roots on the B side. A fitting tribute to GURU and Gang Starr, especially now that GURU has passed away in recent months.
Side A features an orchestrated medley of Gang Starr beats from songs like, “Code Of The Streets”, “Ex To The Next”, Words I Manifest”, and “Soliloquy Of Chaos” among others. Track two on side A is an orchestrated version of “Jazz Thing” featuring GURU. B Side tributes The Roots. A really dope record from Scion I think you’ll enjoy.
